Reclamation Area : 2008. This is the first year since completing the major work of "reclaiming the area" from the woods that we are getting to see how it all turns out. Last year, we had a hard freeze when all the early flowers & lilacs were just about to open. I'll finish this gallery at the peak of summer & take you on a walk around our yard.

June Flooding : June 3 & 4, 2008. We had several storms throughout the evening & overnight with some very heavy rains. The most severe storms & tornadoes missed us, but we received a lot of rain. Since the storms of May 30th, we had received close to 5" of rain.
My nephews, Kiernan & Casey came over today & helped me with the basement. Chuck came home for a few hours & helped move things, set up the fans better than I had & organize the boys. The water that was seeping in can't always find the drains, so we "sweep" often to keep it from getting too deep around the hot water heater, which is on blocks, & the other things we have in the basement. I had put in about 3 hours of sweeping before Chuck got home. My hands & arms got tired & a little sore.
I want to thank Kiernan & Casey. They were a great help & we appreciated it.

"Lake Schramm" : April 2 & 3, 2008. We had a lot of rain in March, so the cleared out area of the woods near our house floods & the water has no way to drain out, so I have dubbed it "Lake Schramm South" (the north end of the cleared out area becomes like a lake, but not as deep as our end). The owner's name is Schramm. The property has been in the family since the mid-1830's. The Schramm home (part of it dates back to the 1860's), our rental house, ten acres of woods next to our house (another 30 were donated as a preserve to Cumberland, IN a few years ago) & several acres of farmland are all on the Schramm land.

March 19 Flooding : March 19, 2008. From February & early March rains & thaws, our grounds are saturated. So, with rain that started Momday (17th) evening that continued thru the night hours,& then with heavy rains that resumed Tuesday (18th) evening & all thru night, these are the results. This is not the worst flooding we've had in our little area. But, in southern Indiana, they have received 6 inches or more. Many of our drainage problems happened before zoning laws & the creeks to the east & south of us are blocked by homes & the roads. I am thankful that our little house is on higher ground that many of our neighbors.

Winter At My House : The weatherman's prediction of snow happened this time! We got a couple of inches on Feb 20, '08 & it looked so pretty. I couldn't capture it on camera, but at times the snow was coming down in big clumps. Very pretty.
I've added a more pictures of later incidents of winter weather. Spring can't be far away, can it?

Winter Wonder Land #2 : You may be bored with the many winter pictures I've taken, so I will appologize now. BUT I have a new camera & wanted to use it. I have a Sony DSC-H9. It has quite a bit more pixels & features than my other camera, the H1. It has a "snow" feature, so I tried it out! So, all of these shots are with the H9.
We didn't get the snow storm of Dec 15 & 16 as bad as in Indiana many did in our country. If I remember correctly, we are pretty close to having as much snow this December than we did last winter (of '06-'07). It seems like it, anyway.

Winter Wonder Land : We woke up to almost 3" of snow on Dec 5th. It got down to the low teens overnight . On Dec 6th there was a dense fog & everything was covered with frost. Last year at this time, it was still warm enough for the guys to play golf, which they did!

The Morrissey Abode : This gallery taken in the fall of 2007. Chuck & I have rented this circa 1952 ranch house since February 1988. It has a nice big yard & lots of woods on two sides of our place. We enjoy living here - the large yard, the woods (bird watching, wild flowers, deer, racoons & squirrels, with the occasional skunk making it's presence "known"), & the privacy. Our landlords are such a blessing to us. The farmer that rents their land to farm plows our driveway when it snows. Here is a tour of the house. I'll also include some pictures of the outside & surroundings at different seasons.
