Birds > Dawna  > My Place > "Lake Schramm"
April 2 & 3, 2008. We had a lot of rain in March, so the cleared out area of the woods near our house floods & the water has no way to drain out, so I have dubbed it "Lake Schramm South" (the north end of the cleared out area becomes like a lake, but not as deep as our end). The owner's name is Schramm. The property has been in the family since the mid-1830's. The Schramm home (part of it dates back to the 1860's), our rental house, ten acres of woods next to our house (another 30 were donated as a preserve to Cumberland, IN a few years ago) & several acres of farmland are all on the Schramm land.

Tree left from the clearing of part of the woods.
Weeds & ripples in the water
Cat tails - this area was marsh in the 1800's. The woods had been there for several decades, but once cleared, the cat tail reeds came back.
This was deep enough for this pair of Mallards to enjoy.
I didn't know until later that I missed the Mallards taking off. This is their wake.
Red-winged blackbird (male) setting up territory. Their presence & call are a sure sign of spring.
I liked the reflections off the water
