Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in My Backyard : Soon the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds will be migrating south. From mid-August thru September, they really eat a lot, while they fight & squabble with each other at the feeders. I try to put out two or three feeders so that one dominant bird cannot guard them all. It's fun to watch 3, 4 or 5 (hard to tell sometimes) flying around & chasing each other. You have to be careful not to get "run over" by them.
I used my Sony DSC-H9 camera with 1.7x telephoto conversion lens with burst mode. These pictures are cropped to get a closer view.

Buggy Shots : Having fun with my cameras; Summer 2008. My motto is, if it moves (& even if it doesn't) take it's picture! It is interesting to me to see what shots I get once I put them on the computer. I get surprised a lot! My other motto is to take tons of pictures to get those few good ones & the occasional great shot. The best invention is the "delete" function!

Back Yard Birds : Spring & Summer 2008. As it gets warmer, it gets harder to get pictures of the birds in my yards & Schramm woods, especial with Junior the cat always following me. She doesn't care, she just wants to be petted.

Macro Beach : I like taking pictures of "little" things. It is not easy identifying sea shells with the references I have.
I used both my cameras. My Sony DSC-H9, I used the camera's macro setting. On the H1, I used my close-up conversion lens. I edited my shots (crop; & when needed: contrast, sharpen) with Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006.

Sanderling & Friends : May 02 to May 11 - our vacation to Panama City Beach, Florida. The first four pictures were taken in the gated community we stayed in. There is a canal that runs thru the community & this bird flew up & "posed" for me. Then a couple of mornings I went to the beach & the Laughing Gulls & Sanderlings were great subjects. Photo info: I used my Sony DSC-H9; edited (cropped, adjusted contrast & sharpened) with Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 software.

Winter Birds of 2007 & 2008 : When we have snow, we get a lot of activity at our bird feeders. Here are some pictures I've taken of the visitors at the feeders. I also have a new camera that I am learning. My new camera is a Sony DCS-H9 (8.1 mega pixels), but I still have my Sony DSC-H1 (5.1 mp).

Total Lunar Eclipse : February 20, 2008. I tried to take some pictures of this lunar eclipse. It was very cold, 10 degrees. I think that affected my cameras. I used a tripod & once I figured out how my remote works on the H9, it used it & that helped a bit. Considering it was cold & these cameras are not SLR type cameras, I got a few pictures worth sharing. I did have to crop the pictures to bring my subject in closer. My editing software is Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006. The only editing that was done to these pictures was cropping & sharpening.

Favorite Bird Pictures 2007 : Some of my favorite pictures of birds, most taken in my backyard. Our God is an awesome God, the Creator of all that exists. He shows us a sample of His creativity in the detail & variety of these small creatures.
Bird watching was a requirement at our high school & was a quarter of our spring semester grade in the required science class of biology. It became a family hobby. And it is a challenge to capture their photos, especially when my cat follows me everywhere!

Bugs & Slugs 2007 : Here are a few pictures I have taken this summer of - yuck! - creapy crawlies. Most of these were taken in my back yard. Except for a couple, all were taken with my close up conversion lens on my camera.

White River Gardens 2007 : Two visits to the White River Gardensin downtown Indianapolis. The first visit was when my sister, Vickie, came from Idaho to visit family (June 11, 2007). The second visit, Mom went with me (July 16, 2007). During the summer in the Hilbert Conservatory is the Butterfly Exhibit. The White River Gardens are a gardener's AND a photographer's delight!
