El Yunque (yun-kay') is the only Tropical Rain forest in the United States & the only one in Puerto Rico. At the highest elevations, it can receive up to 200 inches of rain a year.
Tropical Rain forests are located near the equator & between the Tropics of Cancer & Capricorn.
We didn't know what this was until we went to Cabezas & our guide explained that this was a termite nest.
These nests are every where! They feed on decaying matter. You just don't want them to feast on your home. But most of the homes are built of block walls.
This our "We got lost" trip. We ended up going around to the other side of the rain forest & then drove up this winding road. The views along the way were interesting.
This was far enough away, we couldn't tell if there was water or a dry place.
We ended up here. It was as far as we could drive. I didn't get many photos here. I didn't take good photos, the hike was nice, but we couldn't continue on up the river, a family had blocked the path . They were having a cookout. So, we didn't interrupt them.
